Job Description 

Title:           Sound Technician  

Reports:      Technical Director  

Status:         Limited term, non-exempt

Position Summary

The Sound Technician will manage sound as needed for events in any areas of the NACC property.

The Sound Technician will work in coordination and collaboration with the pastoral leadership, staff members, and the board as directed, to deepen, sustain, and grow the work of hybrid church and other livestream and recorded events at National Avenue Christian Church in a way that is consistent with our mission, values, and theology. NACC is an open and affirming congregation with a commitment to creating a more just and anti-racist community.  

The Sound Technician will be expected to abide by all applicable policies and procedures as detailed in bylaws and policies and procedures of National Avenue Christian Church, as well as any applicable local, State, or Federal laws. This position will be evaluated after 90 days, then biannually.

Qualifications: 

  • Experience with live sound mixing 
  • Demonstrates strong communication and organizational skills 
  • Team player able to carry out verbal or written instruction 
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and with attention to detail 
  • Respect for and openness to a variety of perspectives, and commitment to diversity
  • Students currently studying producing, sound engineering, etc. are encouraged to apply, as are those who may have strong hobby-level or self-taught skills

Responsibilities and Accountabilities of this position include: 

  • Manage in-room mix and online mix 
  • Be available on Sunday mornings to make reasonable changes as requested by the pastors, worship leaders, or music director 
  • Troubleshoot problems when they arise both in rehearsals and during services Learn the use of all cameras, streaming software, projection software, projectors, etc. Manage/maintain microphones, cables, etc. 
  • Be on time for all services and rehearsals – with all equipment set no later than 20 minutes before the first service or rehearsal begins 
  • Work as a team with Technical Director and church member volunteers serving in the tech booth; this may involve training/supervising a volunteer on Sound while staffing a different technical aspect of the service or supporting volunteers in other tech roles.
  • Support and, at times, fill-in for the Technical Director

Compensation and Expectation

We anticipate the technical director working an average of three-ten hours per week at a rate of $15-16 per hour and ask all parties to remain flexible depending on tech and ministry needs of the week.

Required Hours: Sundays 9:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m., occasionally 9-1PM, and as needed/available for special events (weddings, funerals, holidays, etc.) 

Please note:  hours worked at special events will be compensated from event fees at a higher rate of pay.
